The Lodge
5.5

The Lodge is understated, and not what would immediately spring to mind when you think of the personal ski chalet of one of the world's most prominent entrepreneurs. In fact it's more like staying at the home of your richest, coolest friend.
Tucked in the trees at the edge of Verbier, good skiers can ski back to the door when conditions are right, but it's a route off the marked runs, so the personable team are on hand at all times to pick you, your skis and any weary legs up from Verbier's various bases. The forest location means peace and quiet, but a short walk puts you in the heart of the après-ski action. Again a pick up is just a quick call away.
Sleeping up to 18, with a bunk room younger guests will love, and massive king beds everywhere else, it allows a group to spread out, hang out and chill out. The indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, pool room and bar make it easy to stay in if you are tired after exploring the slopes, while the team of 16 are on hand to look after you. Food is a highlight, and top-class chefs can rustle up everything from Swiss and international gourmet dinners to pizzas and burgers for those after simplicity - the menu is a collaboration. Appetites that are stubbornly sticking to different timezone are no problem, and snacks are always available - plus you can help yourself to drinks at any point as if you were at home, including top shelf selections.
While most of the winter is exclusive use for an entire group, some weeks are available to book by the room - an almost 100% guarantee you will meet some fascinating people.
